MADISON – Following the Pier collapse at UW-Madison's Union Terrace; Representative Shelia Stubbs released the following statement:

“My heart goes out to the students, family, and friends affected by pier collapse at UW-Madison Memorial Union Terrance on Monday afternoon. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this incident. Furthermore, this catastrophe highlight the importance of safety procedures and guidelines. We must invest in  safety for our community while also following guidelines set for our safety.

“The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a world renowned academic institution that greatly and positively impacts our state. As such, we must understand the critical importance of dedicating state funds to our state’s flagship campus to help it maintain its wonderful campus.

“I would like to send a special thanks to The UW–Madison Police Department (UWPD), the Madison Fire Department, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Union staff and UW–Madison Dean of Students Christina Olstad that responded to the area to provide first aid and assistance to all parties involved.

“Please remember to be careful and make smart decisions as we delve into the fall season. Be kind and willing to lend a helping hand  in the time of need because as Helen Keller stated. "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
