forest-conserveGroup holds first hearing of 2023-2025 session. The Legislative Trails Caucus promotes Wisconsin’s trail networks and the positive impact they have on the state’s outdoor recreation and economic forecast.

Madison - This Thursday, March 2nd, the Legislative Bi-Partisan Trails Caucus will host an informational hearing featuring speakers highlighting regional partnerships for trail development happening on opposite ends of the state. The hearing will take place Thursday, March 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in 328 NW at the State Capitol.

A presentation by Kim Biedermann, Principal Transportation Planner and Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator at East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, will highlight the High Cliff Trail Connection. Identified as a priority through a number of community planning efforts, this trail would connect Loop the Little Lake Trail, the City of Menasha, the Village of Harrison, and the Village of Sherwood along the east-west corridor to High Cliff State Park.

lee-snodgrass“Outdoor recreation enthusiasts in the Fox Valley region are frequent visitors to High Cliff State Park and developing this designated and safe trail will enhance enjoyment, connectivity between communities and draw visitors to the area. This project is a great example of how municipalities can partner together with community organizations and regional planning commissions to expand upon existing infrastructure in trail investment for multiple communities,” said Representative Lee Snodgrass (D-57) who serves as the co-chair of the Legislative Trails Caucus with Representative Tony Kurtz (R-50).

In addition to Ms. Biedermann, Marty Krueger with the Sauk County Board, River Trail Transit Commission, and Great Sauk Trail Commission will present information on the Wisconsin River Bridge project, which would connect the Great Sauk State Trail and the Walking Iron Trail. The completion of this project will connect Dane and Sauk Counties’ trail systems.

The Legislative Trails Caucus is a bi-partisan, bicameral caucus to promote and highlight Wisconsin’s trail networks and the positive impact they have on the state’s outdoor recreation and economic forecast. Last session, the caucus hosted conversations with a broad range of constituents who are interested in the growth and preservation of Wisconsin’s outdoor trails systems. Wisconsin’s trails support hiking, biking, snowmobiling, ATVs, skiing, and more.
