MADISON - Assembly Democratic Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) announced the appointment of attorney Awais Khaleel on Monday to the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.

Hintz. “Awais brings with him years of experience working to engage Wisconsinites in civic life and government, and I am confident the people of Wisconsin will be served well by his dedication to the public good, his insight and perspective, and his commitment to strengthening our democracy.”

Khaleel is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison and Howard University School of Law and currently serves as an Assistant District Attorney in Dane County, a role in which he prosecutes a range of offenses including hate crimes and crimes against children. He is a founding member of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance, and has served on the City of Madison Affirmative Action Commission, on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Council on Offender Reentry, and as a board member for the Wisconsin Association of State Prosecutors.

Khaleel’s appointment will be effective May 1, 2021. He will be the first Muslim and first BIPOC member to serve on the Commission.
