biden-signs-ovalMADISON, Wis. — Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement celebrating the historic Respect for Marriage Act becoming law:

“It is a fundamental freedom to be able to marry the person you love—regardless of their gender or their race. Today, thanks to President Biden’s signature on the Respect for Marriage Act, that freedom is also the law. Thank you, President Biden for your work, and a special thank you to Senator Tammy Baldwin for leading on this critical bill. We are so proud that a Wisconsin senator is leading the way.

tammy-baldwin“It was encouraging to see this bill pass largely across party lines, even if four of our state’s Republicans, including Senator Ron Johnson, voted against it.

“The Respect for Marriage Act comes at a critical moment for our state and nation. Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the legislation will provide essential protections for same sex and interracial marriage before the U.S. Supreme Court can put their activism over established precedent. It also comes as our communities are seeing an increase in hateful white supremacist and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric that is resulting in horrific violence.

“This bill is the result of work by generations of fearless activists. For the first time we can proudly say that the right to marriage will be protected by legislation. While there is still work to be done, our country has made a significant step forward into the 21st century.”

Dorow Gives Domestic Violence Offender Opportunity to Attack Victim’s Family PDF Print E-mail

jennifer-dorow-judge-waukeshaMADISON, Wis. — Jennifer Dorow, an extremist and Republican candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court, let a dangerous criminal loose for two days who had already violated a restraining order.

Following the sentencing of Michael Liu for eight counts of domestic violence, including violation of previous restraining orders, Dorow allowed Liu two days to report to jail. In that time, he broke into the home of his soon-to-be ex-wife’s parents and brutally stabbed them.

Dorow, who has already made statements that threaten the rights of the LGBTQ community, cannot be trusted to accept the evidence in front of her, nor to protect victims and those without power under the law.

“Jennifer Dorow’s poor judgment put a victim of domestic violence and their family in direct danger, and our thoughts are with them as they recover from this horrific event,” said Wisconsin Democratic Party Executive Director Devin Remiker. “Her decision was disastrous and put a domestic abuser ahead of public safety. This case clearly shows the Republican Party has a lot to learn about Dorow ahead of the primary.”

jfcphotoMADISON, Wis. - Today, Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) announced her appointments to the Joint Committee on Finance for the 2023-24 legislative session. Representative Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee) will continue his tenure on the committee and Representative Tip McGuire (D-Kenosha) will join him.

Leader Neubauer released the following statement regarding the appointments:

greta-neubauer“I am thrilled to announce the reappointment of Representative Evan Goyke and the appointment of Representative Tip McGuire to the Joint Committee on Finance. Both of these legislators have a long history of working across the aisle to accomplish shared goals and being strong advocates for their districts and people across the state.

“Representative Goyke is an accomplished leader in our caucus, and his contributions as a legislator and a member of JFC have been invaluable. Rep. Goyke’s methodical work, ability to break down complex topics for the committee, and commitment to providing opportunities for people across the state to engage in the budget process have been critical to our caucus’ success.

“Since his election to the Assembly, Representative McGuire has demonstrated the capacity and expertise needed to be an effective leader in our caucus and member of this committee. Rep. McGuire is a deeply dedicated legislator who has worked across the aisle to pass legislation like the Main Street Recovery package. He will be a strong addition to the committee and will keep up the fight to provide better for the people of Wisconsin.

“The upcoming budget is an opportunity to invest in the people of our state and to prove that the government can be and must be a force for good. I look forward to the leadership of both Rep. Goyke and Rep. McGuire during the upcoming budget season.”

Monday, 21 November 2022 10:43

latonya-johnsonMADISON – Today State Senator LaTonya was reappointed to the powerful Joint Committee on Finance by Democratic Leader Melissa Agard. Senator Johnson made the following comments regarding her appointment:

“As Governor Tony Evers has previously said ‘what’s best for our kids is best for our state.’ Our new Senate Democratic Leader, Melissa Agard, demonstrated these same values by recognizing that the voices of women and moms are critical in discussions about where our state dollars are spent.

At a time when we have a historic budget surplus, we can no longer sit on our hands while hardworking families struggle. I know that the governor will propose a budget that will align with the values and needs of Wisconsin families and ensure all of our children, regardless of zip code, can thrive. As a mother, that is the Wisconsin I want for our future and as a member of the Joint Finance Committee that is what I will be fighting for during the upcoming state budget process.”
