Jennifer Dorow Endorsed By Extreme Anti-Abortion Group PDF Print E-mail

jennifer-dorow-judge-waukeshaMADISON, Wis. — Wednesday, Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Jennifer Dorow won the endorsement of Wisconsin Right to Life, one of the state’s leading anti-abortion groups.

As noted on their website, Wisconsin Right To Life “endorses candidates who have pledged to champion pro-life values and stand with Wisconsin Right to Life’s legislative strategy.” Notably, Wisconsin Right to Life opposes abortion in nearly all cases—including cases of rape or incest.

In an appearance on right-wing talk radio earlier this week, Dorow also fully endorsed the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs [21:13], overturning Roe v. Wade and ending safe and legal access to abortion for millions of Americans.

“Groups like Wisconsin Right to Life don’t make casual or careless endorsements—they state plainly that they back candidates who share their extreme views and will ‘stand’ with their strategy,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Joe Oslund. “This latest endorsement makes clear that Jennifer Dorow is committed to blocking any access to abortion in Wisconsin. Thanks to the decades-long efforts of groups like Wisconsin Right to Life, Wisconsinites are now forced to travel hundreds of miles or more to access life-saving reproductive health care in neighboring states. It would appear anti-abortion extremists have found an ally in Jennifer Dorow in their efforts to enforce the nightmare reality now faced by millions of Wisconsinites.”
See below for background on Wisconsin Right to Life’s extreme anti-abortion views:
Wisconsin Right To Life On Its Opposition To Abortion In Cases Of Rape: “Women Can Turn A Horrible Experience Into One That Is Life-Giving.” “Fortunately, pregnancy from rape is extremely rare, but it can and does happen. Women should not feel that they have to victimize their own child, or have the child pay for the crime of the father. Women can turn a horrible experience into one that is life-giving. The most important thing she needs at this distressing time is love, support, and assistance for her and her child.” [Hot Topics - Abortion, Wisconsin Right To Life, Accessed 10/14/22]
Wisconsin Right To Life Argued That For Rape Victims, Abortion Was “A Second Assault, A Reminder Of The Invasive Violence She Already Has Endured.” “Though many outsiders view abortion as a quick and sanitary procedure that takes place behind closed doors, to the woman who has been raped it is a second assault, a disturbing reminder of the invasive violence she already has endured.” [Hot Topics - Abortion, Wisconsin Right To Life, Accessed 10/14/22]
Wisconsin Right To Life: “For Victims Of Incest, Pregnancy Can Actually Represent Their Only Hope Of Escaping Their Abusive Situation. To Such A Girl, Incest Is The Problem And Pregnancy May Be The Solution.” “Picture a very young girl who is being sexually assaulted by someone in her family or a close friend and you have the typical, tragic victim of incest. She is helpless and in a seemingly hopeless situation. Someone who is supposed to be protecting her is using her in a vile manner. It is rare, but sometimes she becomes pregnant. For victims of incest, pregnancy can actually represent their only hope of escaping their abusive situation. To such a girl, incest is the problem and pregnancy may be the solution. The pregnancy forces someone to recognize what she is going through and take steps to rescue her from this intolerable situation.” [Hot Topics - Abortion, Wisconsin Right To Life, Accessed 10/14/22]

WisDems Statement on the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade PDF Print E-mail

womens-health-monthMADISON, Wis. — Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler issued the following statement commemorating the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“On Sunday, we mark the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, recognizing a constitutional right to access abortion—guaranteed by a constitutional right to privacy—in the United States. Today, the protections of Roe have been overturned, leaving Wisconsinites and millions of Americans to face a chilling reality in which patients must travel hundreds of miles to access clinics in neighboring states and doctors risk jail for providing reproductive health care. Moreover, the overturning of the right to privacy has raised the specter of further decisions eroding additional freedoms that Americans have counted on for decades.

“Republican politicians sought for decades to overturn Roe and insert the government into one of the most personal and private decisions a person can make. Last fall, Wisconsinites responded to the GOP’s attack on our privacy and freedoms by reelecting Governor Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul.

“Here in Wisconsin, Democrats are now committed to the project of electing a new justice to our state Supreme Court this Spring and depriving Jennifer Dorow or Dan Kelly the chance to demand enforcement our state’s draconian 1849 criminal abortion ban. The Supreme Court race is a critical next step in restoring and expanding the freedoms once protected by Roe. In years to come, Wisconsinites will have the chance to reelect Senator Baldwin, flip Wisconsin House seats in order to restore the Democratic House majority, and pass Senator Baldwin’s Women’s Health Protection Act into law.”

Conservatives In Chaos: Judge Shelley Grogan Blasts Judge Dorow PDF Print E-mail

jennifer-dorow-judge-waukeshaMADISON, Wis. — In a new interview yesterday with right-wing talk show host Dan O’Donnell, Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Shelley Grogan attacked Judge Jennifer Dorow, suggesting there were “flags” with Dorow’s record as a true conservative.

Grogan doesn’t have anything to worry about. Much like Grogan’s chosen candidate Dan Kelly, Jennifer Dorow has allegiances to the most extreme ends of the right wing.

Here are just a few examples of Dorow’s extreme positions and connections:

  • Applying to Scott Walker for her appointment as a circuit court judge, Dorow boasted of her “strong conservative values.” We should all know what “strong conservative values” means to Scott Walker.
  • In her application to Walker, Dorow also wrote that she considered the Supreme Court’s 2003 landmark decision in Lawrence v. Texas — recognizing a right to privacy in relationships between consenting adults — to be the Court’s “worst” and one that “went well beyond the four corners of the U.S. Constitution to declare a new constitutional right.” Rights affirmed under Lawrence helped pave the way for the recognition of marriage equality for all Americans 12 years later in Obergefell.
  • While Dorow has done her best to hide her true opinions on the campaign trail, Dorow has been endorsed by anti-abortion politician Eric Toney, who infamously proposed empowering district attorneys to cross county lines and enforce Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban in neighboring jurisdictions.

“Either right-wing candidate in this race would be a disaster for Wisconsin,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Haley McCoy. “From securing abortion access, to standing up for our democracy and the rule of law, Wisconsin needs a progressive justice committed to our Constitution. It’s clear that Dorow and Kelly are running a flat-out sprint to the far-right, and at this point the only difference between these two candidates is that one is better at hiding their true intentions than the other.”

WEC Bob Spindell’s Admission of Milwaukee Voter Suppression PDF Print E-mail

voters_lineMADISON, Wis. — Tuesday, new reporting revealed Republican WEC Commissioner Bob Spindell bragging to members of the 4th Congressional District GOP of a “well thought out multi-facetted plan” that resulted in a “great and important decrease in Democrat votes” and “major reduction happening in the overwhelming Black and Hispanic areas.”

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Devin Remiker issued the following statement:

“Bob Spindell’s effort to suppress the votes of Black and Hispanic Wisconsinites in Milwaukee is repugnant, and his continued service as a member of the Wisconsin Elections Commission is an unacceptable insult to the democratic process. From spreading conspiracy theories about our elections, to participating in Trump’s plot to install fraudulent presidential electors, Bob Spindell has proven time and again that he is unfit and unqualified to serve as an elections commissioner. It is long past time for Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu to end this clown show and rescind Bob Spindell’s appointment to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.”

Gallagher & Steil Lead GOP Delegation In Vote to Protect Billionaire Tax Cheats PDF Print E-mail

kevin-mccarthy-scott-fitzgerald-house-2023MADISON, Wis. — After an embarrassing first week in the majority, Wisconsin’s GOP House delegation has been quick to fall in line behind Kevin McCarthy and the extreme right-wing controlling their caucus, with Mike Gallagher, Bryan Steil, Derrick Van Orden, Scott Fitzgerald, Glenn Grothman, and Tom Tiffany all too happy to back the GOP’s disastrous agenda at the expense of Wisconsin taxpayers.

For their first order of business in the new majority, every member of Wisconsin’s GOP House delegation voted to protect ultra-wealthy tax cheats from paying their fair share, rolling back a key portion of Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act in a move that would blow a $114 billion hole in the deficit and undermine efforts to lower costs for working families.

mike-gallagher“With one of their first votes of the new Congress, Mike Gallagher, Bryan Steil and Wisconsin’s GOP delegation are showing folks back home exactly where their priorities lie: enriching the ultra-wealthy at the expense of working Wisconsinites,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Haley McCoy. “By clawing back funding to modernize the IRS and enforce our laws, Republicans are seeking to make it even easier for billionaires to cheat on their taxes, while adding more than $100 billion to the deficit over the next decade. For the so-called party of fiscal responsibility, this first vote by Mike Gallagher, Bryan Steil, and Wisconsin’s GOP delegation to balloon the deficit is incredibly irresponsible.”
