MADISON - Today, the Assembly took up the 2023-2025 biennial budget legislation, culminating in various cuts from Governor Evers’ budget proposal and tabling 13 Democratic amendments to restore crucial provisions removed by Joint Finance including abortion protections, Medicaid expansion, funding for the UW System and public schools, and more.

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today delivered the Democratic Radio Address on the five bipartisan bills signed last week to help expand access to safe, affordable housing for working families. MADISON – Wednesday the Wisconsin State Senate debated the 2023-25 biennial budget as amended by the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee (JFC). Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) and his Democratic colleagues introduced eleven amendments designed to restore vital provisions of the Governor’s budget slashed by JFC. All eleven amendments were rejected.

MADISON – Wednesday, Wisconsin Senate Democrats put forward an amendment to save the Child Care Counts program with $340 in state funding. Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement on Republicans rejecting this amendment on a party line vote:

Today, Senate Democrats offered several amendments to provide Senate Republicans with one final opportunity to honor the will of the people.
