MANITOWOC, WI - Tomorrow at 10:00 AM, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels will tour one of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry’s (WAF) plants and meet with CEO Sachin Shivaram, as well as members of the United Steel Workers Union, to discuss the impact of current trade climate on the local economy. The factories produce aluminum pieces primarily for gas and oil, farming, and automotive equipment. The companies that have bought WAF's specialty pieces for their equipment are now selling less due to the tariffs; that in turn is reducing their consumption of WAF products.

The negative impact from the trade war has had a ripple effect on the local economy. With farmers and small and medium businesses spending less and companies unable to fully fund their workforce, money that would otherwise be flowing through local communities is disappearing.

Rep. Hintz honors Oshkosh Fire Fighter for his 34 years of service and his support of students at Fox Valley Technical College who are embarking on a career in public safety.

MADISON - On Thursday, Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) welcomed Battalion Chief Mark Boettcher of the Oshkosh Fire Department to the State Capitol in Madison.

Boettcher was selected as the 54th Assembly District's "First Responder of the Year." Boettcher was nominated by Rep. Hintz and the City of Oshkosh Fire Department because of his notable career and the contributions he has made to the community. Representative Hintz released the following statement on this honor:

“I am proud to recognize Battalion Chief Mark Boettcher as the 54th Assembly District’s 2019 First Responder of the Year, and am honored to have the opportunity to recognize his service to the Oshkosh community before the full Assembly.

“Chief Boettcher is a 34-year veteran of the Oshkosh Fire Department, and utilizes his years of experience to support students at Fox Valley Technical College who are embarking on a career in public safety. Pair announce the “Forward, Together” fall legislative agenda at the Brown County Courthouse on Monday.

GREEN BAY – Representative Staush Gruszynski (D-Green Bay) joined Assembly Minority Leader Rep. Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) at the Brown County Courthouse on Monday to announce the Democrats’ “Forward, Together” fall legislative agenda.

“The people of Wisconsin sent us to Madison to address the pressing issues facing our state,” Gruszynski said. “­At a time when thousands of citizens can’t trust the safety of the water at their taps, when quality health care is out of reach for far too many of our neighbors, and when working families are struggling to get by, the legislature should be working overtime – not limiting our committee work and session days to a bare minimum. Thankfully, we still have time to take the bold actions that the people have asked for.”

Gruszynski and Hintz highlighted several policies that Democrats will continue to advocate for as the 2019-2020 legislative session continues including:

• Passing strong water quality legislation to ensure that every Wisconsin resident, urban and rural, has access to clean, safe drinking water in their home.
• Expanding Medicaid to provide thousands of citizens with quality health care while freeing up state resources for reinvestment in mental health, opioid treatment, and women’s health care.
• Enhancing financial security for workers by enacting a living wage, expanding options for retirement savings, and ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work.
