Milton L. Childs Appointed Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge PDF Print E-mail

mc-courthouse-jailMADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced Tuesday his appointment of Milton L. Childs to serve as Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge.

Childs is currently a managing attorney with the Wisconsin State Public Defender's Office. In his 15 years as a public defender, Childs has tried more than 150 cases to verdict.

tony-evers“Mr. Childs has dedicated his life to serving others, as a Marine, teacher, state public defender, and now as judge,” said Gov. Evers. “His vast experience as a public defender and his diverse professional background will bring a valuable perspective to the bench.”

Childs, a Milwaukee native, is a graduate of Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School, Xavier University, and Marquette University Law School. Before attending law school, Childs was a math teacher for 12 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for 8 years, earning the rank of sergeant.

The appointment fills a vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Joe Donald to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals.

The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by Judge Joan Kessler’s retirement, effective February 7, 2020. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2021.

District I consists solely of Milwaukee County.
