MADISON - After ICE murdered another Minnesotan, State Sen. Kelda Roys, a candidate for governor issued the following statement:

“ICE under Trump is incompatible with a free society. The Trump regime is making every single one of us less safe and less free. They are destroying public safety. They refuse to respect our constitution, our law, or our rights. The organized, violent actions of ICE have left us with no other choice but to disarm, dismantle, and prosecute ICE.

“Since Trump took office, ICE agents have fatally shot several people. Just this week, they have kidnapped and incarcerated several tiny children, some in defiance of court orders. Thirty-two people died in 2025 in their custody due to inadequate medical care or being deprived of basic needs. ICE agents indiscriminately attack and detain people without regard for their legal status, denying fundamental right to due process guaranteed to everyone in our country.

“Most immigration violations are civil – not criminal – matters. Any person regardless of status who commits a crime can and should be prosecuted under our criminal justice system, and if properly adjudicated, deported. We didn't need ICE for this system to function well, and ICE is destroying that system along with our public safety.

“A free society cannot tolerate a private paramilitary force that defies our laws and is only accountable to one man. That's called a dictatorship, not a democracy.

“Our neighbors in Minnesota and around the country have shown incredible courage and bravery in resisting ICE and refusing to let their communities be terrorized. This moment calls upon every one of us who is a patriot to act with moral clarity and demand that ICE be stopped for good.
