MADISON, WI - Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly met to vote on a number of bills, many focused on addressing rising housing costs across the state. Rep. Lori Palmeri released the following statement:

lori-palmeri“The legislation we saw on the floor today was fast tracked by the majority party, leaving little room for collaboration and input from members outside of the Assembly Committee on Housing and Real Estate. Bi-partisan discussions to create a robust housing plan had begun at the beginning of this session but ultimately faded out. Members of the committee, like myself, were able to submit amendments but the expedited timeline the majority party placed on these bills was unnecessary,” stated Rep. Palmeri.

“I do want to thank Rep. Brooks (R-59), for working with me during committee to submit and pass an amendment for AB 455. My amendment allows an individual who already resides in a unit that will be converted to a condominium with the grant in this bill, the ability to also submit an offer. I left committee excited and hopeful to continue working across the aisle.

“While I appreciate the majority party’s work on the legislation we voted on today, there is more work to be done. We need to continue talking with stakeholders, finding creative solutions and allowing time for collaboration across the aisle. I will continue to advocate for policies that will make housing more affordable, available and stable for working families.
