DELAFIELD, WI – Mike Van Someren, lifelong Wisconsinite, attorney, husband, father of two, and former Badger lineman has officially launched his campaign for State Senate in Wisconsin’s 33rd District.

In a video announcement on TikTok, Van Someren shared why he’s stepping up to run — to raise wages for Wisconsin residents, to lower property taxes for hardworking families, to fully fund public education and invest in our children's future, and to bring accountability and transparency back to government.

mike-van-someren-family“Delafield, the 33rd Senate District, and Wisconsin as whole deserve leaders who will fight for our future. We're missing that in Madison right now, as republicans in the Senate are only concerned with themselves and clinging to power instead of solving problems,” said Mike Van Someren. “I’m running to fight for hardworking families, for our children, and to make sure everyone gets a fair shot in the state I love. We can’t afford to wait any longer. This fight starts now.”

Van Someren has already earned the endorsement of Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein and the entire State Senate Democratic Caucus, underscoring the strength of his candidacy and making clear he has the support of Democratic Senators across Wisconsin.

“We are thrilled to support Mike Van Someren in his campaign for State Senate in Wisconsin’s 33rd District. Mike is a hard worker, a family man, someone who gives back to his community, and is fighting to make our state and our country a better place – he is exactly the kind of person Wisconsinites deserve in the State Senate,” said Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein. “The 2026 election is our chance to win a democratic majority in the Senate and to deliver real results for families across Wisconsin. We are all very excited to have Mike in this fight with us.”

About Mike:

In my small hometown of Somerset, Wisconsin, Mike Van Someran became a three-sport athlete, National Honor Society member, and All-State football player. That led to playing for the UW–Madison Badgers, where he played offensive tackle. Mike became the first in my family to graduate college, earning a History degree.

Inspired by new goals, Mike went on to Marquette Law School, where he served on Law Review and graduated cum laude. That same week, he married my wife Renee. Mike began his legal career assisting business owners and nonprofits, and eventually became a shareholder at Amundsen Davis (formerly Davis|Kuelthau) and has won numerous industry awards.

Outside of work, Mike has served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County, the Wisconsin Veterans Community Foundation, and ArtWorks for Milwaukee. He also previously chaired the Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church Finance Committee for six years, helping launch a successful capital campaign for major building repairs.

Mike stays active in the real estate industry through NAIOP-WI and has twice been named a “DL All-Star.” But his proudest title is Dad. Renee and I are raising our two daughters in the Town of Delafield, along with our chocolate lab, Buckley.
