GREEN BAY, WI - On behalf of the City of Green Bay, Mayor Eric Genrich extends his thanks and admiration to Mark Murphy as he retires from his role as President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers on July 25, 2025. Murphy’s leadership since 2008 has elevated the Packers organization and brought lasting positive influence to the City, region, and state.

“First and foremost, Mark has been a truly decent, humble, and thoughtful leader of the Green Bay Packers,” said Mayor Eric Genrich. “He’s guided our beloved franchise throughout his tenure with winning football as his priority and demonstrated care and appreciation for the people who make up the team’s fanbase and the Green Bay community.”

During his 17-year tenure, Murphy led the evolution of America’s team during a period of significant change in professional sports. Under his guidance, the Packers achieved significant success, including eleven playoff appearances and a Super Bowl championship, along with consistently ranking among the league’s best for fan experience. He also championed the team’s community development of Titletown, partnered with the Community Foundation to create Give Big Green Bay, and was instrumental in bringing the NFL Draft to the City of Green Bay.

eric-genrich“The Packers record of success during Murphy’s tenure adds a remarkable chapter to the history of the most storied franchise in professional sports,” Genrich continued, “But more than anything, I’ve personally appreciated the way in which Mark has won the right way, never losing sight of his core values, always valuing the players and people who make the Packers’ success possible.”

To mark this historic day and to personally thank him, Mayor Genrich presented Murphy with a Key to the City and offered the following proclamation,

WHEREAS, Mark Murphy has served as President and CEO of the Green Bay Packers for seventeen years, demonstrating exemplary leadership, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to excellence; and

WHEREAS, under Murphy’s tenure, the Packers have made eleven playoff appearances, secured a Super Bowl championship, and consistently ranked among the NFL’s best organizations for fan experience; and

WHEREAS, Mark spearheaded transformative community initiatives—such as the creation of Titletown, the establishment of the Give Big Green Bay campaign in partnership with the Community Foundation, and played a central role in securing the NFL Draft for the City of Green Bay—all of which have enriched the quality of life for residents and elevated our regional profile; and

WHEREAS, the residents of the City appreciate Murphy’s humility, decency, and thoughtful leadership, his respect for players, staff, and fans, and his commitment to winning the right way—with character and community as guiding principles; and

WHEREAS, as a token of the City’s gratitude and recognition of Mark’s tireless service and lasting legacy, Mayor Genrich will, on July 25, 2025, cause the Nitschke Bridge and the Starr Bridge to be lit in Packers green and gold;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Eric Genrich, Mayor of the City of Green Bay, Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim July 25, 2025, as “MARK MURPHY DAY” in the City of Green Bay; and further proclaim that a Key to the City be presented to Mark Murphy on this date, in celebration of his invaluable contributions to our team and our community.
