http://newiprogressive.com/images/stories/S5/assembly-wi-robin-vos-s450.jpg Oconto Falls, WI - For decades, I’ve wondered why Wisconsinites have not been able to place ballot questions on the ballot like most other states in our Union. This lack of direct citizen input into our state’s democracy has been very frustrating given that one of our major political parties doesn’t believe in democratic representation. There are dozens of values and freedoms favored by the majority of our citizens which are being ignored by those who prefer to live in the 1950s and think only their opinions count. Such a dictatorial, right-wing, self-righteous, dismissive attitude doesn’t belong in Wisconsin, period. Meanwhile, the destruction of our democracy based on unbridled fear and distrust by one political party continues. Wisconsinites deserve the same access and rights through a simple statewide majority vote via ballot or referendum as anyone else. For instance, large majorities want reasonably-priced, nonprofit healthcare for all, the right to read any book we wish, the right to control our own bodies, and use marijuana if we wish. Written on our capitol building, it says, “The Will of the People is the Law of the Land.” Thank you, Governor Evers, for trying to bring our government into the 21st century. |
