MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today delivered his weekly radio address encouraging Wisconsinites to get enrolled in healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act during the 12th annual ‘Open Enrollment’ period. Wisconsin residents can sign up for high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage through Healthcare.gov starting tomorrow, Fri., Nov. 1, through Jan. 15, 2025. During the last Open Enrollment Period, a record-setting 254,482 Wisconsinites signed up for health insurance on the individual marketplace. Gov. Evers today also underscored the importance of retaining the Affordable Care Act to ensure millions of Wisconsinites and Americans can maintain access to healthcare coverage.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been transformational for folks and families across the state and country since it was enacted by President Barack Obama in 2010, providing healthcare coverage to millions of Wisconsin families, ensuring folks can access health insurance without lifetime limits and contraception with no out-of-pocket costs, and protecting the coverage of more than 100 million Americans—including 2.4 million Wisconsinites—who have pre-existing conditions. Another key provision of the ACA, authored by U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), allows young people to stay on their parents’ insurance until the age of 26.

The ACA has saved Wisconsinites and Americans millions in healthcare costs. Thanks to the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration and Sen. Baldwin, coverage today is more affordable than ever. Bolstered by the American Rescue Plan Act and extended by the Inflation Reduction Act, last year, the majority of Wisconsinites who enrolled in health insurance on Healthcare.gov qualified for cost savings, with the average person saving $573.11 on their monthly insurance premiums.

Wisconsinites can explore their coverage options at any time at Healthcare.gov. To get connected to free, expert help and explore cost-saving options, Wisconsinites are encouraged to visit WisCovered.com.

eversHey there, Wisconsin! Governor Tony Evers here.

I believe every Wisconsinite should have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

I kept my promise and withdrew Wisconsin from a Republican lawsuit that would’ve gutted the ACA and threatened care for thousands of Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions.

And we’re working to make sure healthcare, including reproductive healthcare, mental and behavioral healthcare, and prescriptions, are affordable and accessible to all.

Here in Wisconsin, we’re also working to expand BadgerCare, which would provide healthcare coverage to nearly 90,000 Wisconsinites, while improving health outcomes and bringing inbillions of dollars for our state.

Thanks to folks like President Biden and our Senator Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsinites across our state can get high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

Fourteen years ago, the ACA transformed our country, ensuring millions of people right here in Wisconsin have life-saving healthcare coverage.

And last year, we saw a record-breaking number of enrollments in healthcare coverage through the ACA, with a record-setting more than 254,000 Wisconsinites enrolled on the individual marketplace.

Thanks to the president’s Inflation Reduction Act, 89 percent of those Wisconsinites enrolled in a plansaw reduced costs.

And of those who qualified for a premium tax credit, the average person saved over $500 on their monthly premiums. That’s a really big deal, folks.

The Inflation Reduction Act also helped lower prescription drug prices for seniors on Medicare, including capping insulin costs at $35 per month.

Every Wisconsinite deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare.

So don’t wait! Open enrollment begins November 1st, so head to Healthcare.gov to explore your options, see if you qualify for cost savings, and find the right plan for you and your family.

Happy open enrollment, Wisconsin!
