Green Bay, WI— Today, Dr. Kristin Lyerly’s campaign launched Veterans for Kristin, a group of Northeast Wisconsinites dedicated to advancing the interests of veterans in Northeast Wisconsin. These veterans are backing Dr. Lyerly because she’s the candidate who will keep our communities safe, prioritize America’s national security, and fight for the healthcare, benefits, and respect our veterans deserve.

“While Tony Wied has spent his career serving himself and his rich friends, Dr. Lyerly has spent her career serving the public as an OB-GYN. She understands our struggles and, in Congress, she’ll be an independent voice for veterans, not leaders of either party,” Air Force veteran and Oconto resident Mark Smith said.

veteranflagA cousin of Dr. Lyerly’s and veteran, Keith Fleming, recently lost his life to suicide. Keith’s daughter Cheyenne Fleming, a resident of Green Bay said, “As a young adult who has watched her father suffer with PTSD up until he took his own life in January of 2024, I truly believe the government lacks effective support systems for veterans who suffer.  The government stepping up to take care of veterans' mental healthcare shouldn’t be a ‘nice to have’, it’s what our veterans deserve.” Keith’s brother Brian, also a veteran who has struggled to access needed healthcare, wholeheartedly agrees.

Keith is set to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, the same cemetery that Trump-endorsed Tony Wied’s puppeteer disgraced on Monday. Tony Wied has said nothing. “For Dr. Lyerly, honoring our veterans is about more than mentioning them every so often to score political points, it’s about having the independence to be able to stand up for them, especially when it isn’t convenient,” Lyerly campaign spokesperson Kurt Frewing said.

“I’m committed to ensuring all of our veterans receive the benefits they deserve. It’s too hard for too many of these true patriots to get the care they so desperately need, especially in rural communities including much of northeast Wisconsin. In Congress, I’ll stand up to anyone who wants to cut veterans benefits or privatize the VA, and ensure every service member, past or present, has access to quality healthcare. For me, this is personal,” Dr. Kristin Lyerly said.

Dr. Kristin Lyerly is showing up in all 11 counties and talking with every voter she can reach, regardless of where they live, how they have voted in the past, or who they’re supporting for president. She’s proud to be supported by this courageous group of advocates, working together to support our veterans and their families, now and always.
