Green Bay, WI – Dr. Kristin Lyerly, the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, is announcing an impressive second quarter, raising $891,000 from over 20,000 individual donors. With an average donation of just $44, Dr. Lyerly’s candidacy clearly resonates with the people of Wisconsin and across the country. “From the very beginning, the response to our campaign has been overwhelmingly positive. These numbers demonstrate that the work we are doing in this district, at this time in history, represents so much more than a typical congressional campaign - it is truly a movement” said Dr. Lyerly. “People in northeast Wisconsin and across the country understand that women’s reproductive rights include the freedom to build our families using IVF, access contraception, pursue menopause treatment and many other aspects of fundamental healthcare that have a profound impact on our daily lives and our futures.” Since the launch of her campaign, Dr. Lyerly says she has been humbled by the outpouring of support from across the country, and especially within the district. “At every campaign stop, I meet men and women who are eager to tell their deepest and most personal stories, because they know exactly what is at stake in this election”, reflected Dr. Lyerly. “We owe it to them, as well as those who live in hostile states who understand that their only path forward is to reinstate national protections for full-scope reproductive care, to give this race everything we’ve got, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.” Campaign Manager Madeleine Buchholz-Kneeland added, “These are the facts: this is an open seat, in the battleground state of Wisconsin, where the doctor who brought abortion care back to the state will inevitably be facing an anti-abortion extremist in an election where reproductive rights are in the minds of nearly all voters. It’s a fight that we take incredibly seriously, and we have the grassroots fundraising support of a people-powered movement to prove it.” About Dr. Kristin Lyerly: Dr. Kristin Lyerly is a sixth-generation Wisconsinite, OB/GYN physician, mother of four, and champion for women and families running to be the first woman elected to Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. Kristin has practiced as an OB/GYN in Green Bay, Oconto, Marinette and Sheboygan, and regularly travels hundreds of miles to provide a wide range of health care services to rural and underrepresented communities in Minnesota and Arizona. She was the named plaintiff in the case that brought abortion care back to Wisconsin following the restoration of an antiquated 1849 Wisconsin abortion law post- Dobbs. Dr. Lyerly works with medical students at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Green Bay and is an active and award-winning member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), known for her effective leadership and outstanding contributions. Kristin is running for Congress to bring a pro-patient, pro-choice champion of women’s healthcare to DC and to advocate for Wisconsin’s working families. |
