Madison – End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin (End Abuse), the state coalition serving survivors of domestic violence (DV), honors October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) by partnering with a national awareness campaign, announcing the upcoming release of their annual Homicide Report, and preparing for their antiviolence conference.

End Abuse is proud to partner with the national #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign. This campaign sheds light on the pervasive issue of DV, empowers people to come together to address this epidemic, and focuses on the theme that everyone knows someone affected by DV - whether they realize it or not.

“We’re proud to partner with the Every1KnowsSome1 campaign,” said End Abuse Executive Director Monique Minkens. “We’re releasing content on four key issues each week of DVAM: DV basics, reproductive justice, firearms & lethality, and housing. By increasing awareness to the public and lawmakers, we work towards meaningful resourcing solutions that address violence at its roots.”

One in 3 women, 1 in 4 men, and nearly half of LGBTQ+ people experience DV in their lifetime (NNEDV). End Abuse’s Homicide Report – to be released October 16 – stresses that this is not a private problem. Rather, the report highlights, high rates of DV reflect a public health crisis requiring community solutions. End Abuse shares ways to get involved and support survivors include:

• Know Your Community: Use the statewide Get Help map at www.endabusewi.org/get-help to locate your local program and tune into opportunities to engage in and support their work.
• Social Media Campaign: Engage with @endabusewi on social media using the hashtag #Every1KnowsSome1; share resources spreading the word and create a united front against DV.
• Purple Thursday: On October 19, wear purple to show your support of survivors.
• Register for Collective Transformation: Building Power Through Change: End Abuse’s antiviolence conference takes place November 27-29 at the Monona Terrace in Madison. The mission is to spark an expansive dialog about DV, while celebrating End Abuse’s 45 years of service. It will explore root causes and intersections of other forms of oppression.
