lgbtq-pride-flagMadison – Since its start in 2009, Transgender Day of Visibility is to celebrate and honor the transgender and non-binary community across our country. It is a day for recognizing the significant accomplishments, contributions and hurdles this community has had to overcome simply to just be themselves. Amidst a time where the transgender and non-binary community is under attack nationwide from legislators, Representatives Ratcliff (D-46) and Clancy (D-19) stay firm on their position - to defend Wisconsin’s transgender and non-binary community and be a voice of advocacy in the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Representative Melissa Ratcliff (D-Cottage Grove) released the following statement:

Melissa Ratcliff“In Wisconsin and throughout this nation, transgender and non-binary people show their strength in knowing themselves and being true to who they are. This community continues to be marginalized by lawmakers simply for living openly and authentically. A person’s gender identity should never be used against them, and it is troubling that Republicans are so infatuated with criminalizing our transgender community when they simply want the same rights and freedom that others have. I will continue to be a strong advocate for our transgender and non-binary community and will continue to celebrate their accomplishments, their resilience and their determination to stand up for what is right. My message is clear; our transgender and non-binary community here in Wisconsin  welcomed and honored and this Day helps us to celebrate them.”

Representative Ryan Clancy (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:

ryan-clancy“Our trans and non-binary friends, family and colleagues deserve to be whole and safe within our communities. In a time of unprecedented political attacks–which embolden violent physical attacks– it is our responsibility to stand up in protection, alliance, and service. To say ‘We are here with you, you are loved, and we won’t stop fighting until you are safe.’”
