doug-la-folletteGovernor Tony Evers Appoints Former State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski to Fill La Follette’s Vacancy

MADISON – Today, Secretary of State Doug La Follette announced that he was stepping down from his position as Secretary of State. Governor Tony Evers stated that he is appointing former State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski to complete Secretary La Follette’s term. Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison), State Senate Democratic Leader, released the following statement:

melissa-agard“Secretary of State Doug La Follette has dedicated his life to public service and bettering the State of Wisconsin. As a vocal proponent for renewable energy and a healthy environment, Doug was an organizer for Earth Day 1970 and a founder of Wisconsin's Environmental Decade. Most recently he played an integral role in preserving the sanctity of our electoral process and protecting voting rights. I thank Doug for his decades of service to our state and wish him all the best in his retirement.

sarah-godlewski“I am confident that former State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski will serve as Secretary of State with the utmost dedication, putting the people of Wisconsin first. In her time as State Treasurer, Sarah led the Treasurers Homeowner’s Task Force to help Wisconsinites buy, fix, and stay in their homes. She also served as chair of a Retirement Security Task Force and put forth a comprehensive plan to expand retirement security. I am thrilled to see yet another qualified and brilliant woman serving in a statewide office.

“Congratulations to Sarah and Doug. Thank you both for your contributions to the great state of Wisconsin, and best of luck to the both of you in your future endeavors.”
