construction-jobsWisconsin Dems say numbers are thanks to Democratic leadership and commitment to serving Wisconsinites through the American Rescue Plan and Badger Bounceback agenda.

MADISON –– On Friday, promising data highlighted that U.S. jobless claims dropped to a new pandemic-era low last week, and U.S. COVID-19 infections are down to the lowest level since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Thanks to Gov. Evers’ and President Biden’s leadership, and despite Republicans obstructing pandemic relief, Wisconsin is on its way to bouncing back better than before. The Wisconsin unemployment rate is three times better than in 2020 and well below the national average. To ensure Wisconsin can fully recover, Gov. Evers has rolled out his Badger Bounceback agenda, and is distributing $420 million in American Rescue Plan funds to 84,000 small businesses across the state. Applications were sent to eligible businesses this week.

The city of Milwaukee is using funds from the American Rescue Plan to launch an employment program and the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program is using funds from the plan to increase benefits for their supplemental nutrition program.

Wisconsin also remains ahead of the national average for vaccine distribution — 48% of Wisconsinites have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 42% are fully vaccinated. This news comes as Wisconsin COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped to their lowest level this week, and are down more than 91% from its peak.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Kayla Anderson released the following statement:

“Together, with President Biden in the White House, Governor Evers and Rep. Pocan, Rep. Kind, and Rep. Moore, have quickly delivered relief to working families. Today’s numbers are thanks to Democratic leadership and commitment to serving Wisconsinites through the American Rescue Plan and the Badger Bounceback agenda. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress — all of whom voted against the relief package — continue to stand in the way of meaningful relief for Wisconsinites.”
