Green Bay – Wisconsin Conservation Voters extends its congratulations to Celestine Jeffreys on her recent appointment as Green Bay City Clerk. The Green Bay Common Council voted to confirm her nomination at the Tuesday, Jan. 19 meeting, after an overwhelming show of support from community members.

celestine-jeffreysAs the former chief of staff to Mayor Eric Genrich, Jeffreys played a leading role in expanding voter access for the 2020 Presidential Election in Green Bay, in spite of the logistical challenges COVID-19 presented to local governments across Wisconsin.

Most notably, Jeffreys helped to write and secure a grant the city utilized to increase poll worker pay, install secure ballot dropboxes, hire “voter navigators” to assist residents in casting their ballots, and ensuring Green Bay’s counting process was transparent and open to the public.

Prior to Jeffreys nomination, Wisconsin Conservation Voters released a list of recommendations the city can undertake to further expand voter access and election transparency. Wisconsin Conservation Voters looks forward to continuing its work with the City of Green Bay and Clerk Jeffreys to implement these recommendations and further build on the successes of the 2020.
