sex-traffickingLegislation to protect our young people from potential online predators soliciting sexually explicit photographs from them and increase the penalty for the crime of patronizing a prostitute to a felony.

MADISON - On Wednesday Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) took part in the Senate Judiciary Committee to introduce several bills, all of which are aimed at creating a safer environment for the people of Milwaukee. The first bill, Senate Bill 300, creates a crime for soliciting a sexually explicit photograph from a minor. The Senator expressed her support for this bill, stating:

lena-taylor“It’s about time we started implementing legislation to protect our young people from potential online predators soliciting sexually explicit photographs from them. I believe this bill will offer that protection by creating a criminal offense for this grotesque behavior.”

Additionally, Senator Taylor introduced Senate Bill 308, a piece of legislation aimed at putting an end to sex trafficking in Wisconsin. This particular bill would increase the penalty for the crime of patronizing a prostitute from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class I felony, if the individual has been convicted of that crime at least twice. The Senator made the following remarks in support of that bill:

“Human trafficking happens here in the United States, and is something that needs to be shut down with swift legislative action. With the introduction of this bill we can continue putting an end to the human trafficking in Wisconsin by penalizing the people who take part in the buying and selling of women, men and children.”
