Tim Burns: I want to change the Wisconsin Supreme Court PDF Print E-mail

tim-burnsProgressive candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court Tim Burns makes his case for how he is different from the other two candidates.

MADISON, WI - In the final days of the Wisconsin Supreme Court primary race, the candidates for the Wisconsin State Supreme Court have drawn clear distinctions between themselves through public statements regarding how each sees the current status and future direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

  • Tim Burns
    • UpFront - “I’m not there to work with them, I’m there to replace them.  I’m there to change this court.  Our court is a national embarrassment, but more than that-- it hurts ordinary Wisconsinites everyday.”
  • Judge Screnock
    • Eau Claire Event - “We need to have predictability and stability in the law… our business community can’t arrange their affairs if they don’t know when the law is going to change.  It affects the contracts that they enter into and the deals they make.”
    • Jay Weber - “I think our court is functioning well... I think the individuals who are there, I can work with and I don’t have any concerns about collegiality on the court.”
  • Judge Dallet
    • Wisconsin Public Radio - “I think that distinguishes me from my opponents as well, because I am someone who can work with others… In looking at Mr. Burns, the way he’s acted throughout the campaign, his blatant statements that he’s not planning on working with anyone, that he’s looking to the future, to when he can get the court where he thinks somehow he’s going to be able to do, and not looking to today and actually August 1st when this term starts.  I will start this term on August 1st, certainly protecting our rights and values that make Wisconsin great, but also with an ability to work with the people who are on that court to do the best we can for the people of our state.”

In response Tim Burns released the following statement:

Over the past decade, in case after case,  we’ve seen our Wisconsin courts enrich the powerful, disenfranchise voters, authorize corruption of our government with the influence of special interests, and lock up people of color in record breaking numbers.

My opponents, Judge Rebecca Dallet and Judge Michael Screnock, cannot be counted on to raise a finger to fight these injustices. Working people in Wisconsin are hurting, and my opponents are on the campaign trail discussing the need for collegiality and the needs of businesses instead of the needs of everyday Wisconsinites.

Judge Screnock is happy with that status quo of our current Wisconsin Supreme Court because Justices Gableman, Rebecca Bradley and Kelly are supporting his candidacy.  Judge Dallet has a personal relationship with conservative Chief Justice Pat Roggensack strong enough to have led Judge Dallet to support Chief Justice Roggensack in 2013 and strong enough to have lead conservative Chief Justice Roggensack to return the favor with a contribution shortly thereafter.

Neither of my opponents will take the Supreme Court in a new direction because they are cogs in a broken system.

I’m not running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court because I want a promotion.

I don’t want to spend my time on the bench writing eloquent dissents.

I’m running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court because I want to do what is right and change our Supreme Court into a court that looks out for everyone, not just the wealthy and the well-connected.

I want to win my seat in 2018, hold the progressive seat in 2019 and elect a progressive Justice in 2020.

That's the biggest difference between me and my opponents.  They want to join the court to get along with it, and I want to join the court and lead the fight to change it.

Flynn: Scott Walker Failed Wisconsin Internet Users PDF Print E-mail

broadband-cableWisconsin's slow Internet speeds and lack of broadband access, as well as Walker's inaction on digital issues, shows Walker is unwilling and unable to move our state Forward.

MILWAUKEE, WI - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Flynn today made the following statement attacking Scott Walker for his poor record on high-speed broadband Internet access in Wisconsin.

matt-flynn"As of 2016, Wisconsin's Internet speeds rank 49th in the nation. There are several counties where high-speed Internet access does not exist. This is unacceptable. High-speed Internet helps small businesses thrive, farmers work efficiently, and students learn. Walker has failed to address our lack of connectivity.

"Our economy is lagging behind other states. Too many of our fellow citizens are leaving Wisconsin to seek better economic opportunities. The slow Internet speeds contribute to our poor economic performance. Better broadband access will spur economic growth and improve the lives of every Wisconsinite.

"Additionally, Walker has provided no leadership on Net Neutrality, the guiding principle of the open and fair Internet we have come to know. Rather than standing up for ordinary people and small businesses, Walker sided with telecom companies, who seek to raise prices and deny access to customers and small businesses.

"As governor, high-speed broadband Internet access will be a right. Speeds in Wisconsin will catch up to the rest of the country. We will restore Net Neutrality."

Mike's goal is to inspire and engage people from all over the state to get back into the driver's seat. Democracy is not a spectator sport. Mike's message continues to explain and educate why this campaign must be People Powered and Crowd Funded if it is to succeed.

Stops include:
Radio interview at Sunny  AM 1170/FM 103.3 “Between The Lines”  with Greg Stensland.
Morning walk to visit the many Main Street businesses
Lunch with some County Supervisors

Meet & Greet at Casa Del Tequila 6pm to 8:30pm, 525 N Peters Ave Fond du Lac, WI 54937

mike-mccabe"Wisconsin is becoming a shadow of its former self. So much of what made Wisconsin special is being dismantled. I’m having an increasingly hard time recognizing it as the place where I grew up. Never in my lifetime have I seen our government less responsive to regular people. Never have I seen our public institutions so disrespected and distrusted. Never have I have seen both major parties this fouled up. Never have I seen the political establishment so corrupted and out of touch," said McCabe.

He continued, "I am running for governor for one reason and one reason only. To do everything I can to get our government working for all of us and not just a privileged few."

andy-gronikMILWAUKEE, WI - When I ran my business, I always believed that the best way to solve problems was to get out on the factory floor and talk to the people who experienced them every day.

You've probably heard me say that before, but it's true. And now I want to make sure every Wisconsinite has the chance to tell me about the problems they experience every day and get to hear how I'll fix them.

I'm planning to host a Facebook Live Town Hall on February 23rd, where I want to answer your questions and talk about the issues you care about.

Take a minute now to fill out our short campaign survey and help me plan what I'll be talking about on Friday the 23rd.

This campaign is about you -- listening to your ideas, fixing the problems you face, and making life better in Wisconsin for you and your family. It's about undoing the damage of Scott Walker and making our state the best it can be.

But the best way for me to make a plan and get this started is to hear directly from you.

Will you take our short survey now? It shouldn't take more than 3 minutes.

Thank you, and don't forget to tune in to my town hall on the 23rd!

Burns for Wisconsin Launches First Television Ad PDF Print E-mail

tim-burnsMADISON, WI - This afternoon, Tim Burns’ campaign for the Wisconsin Supreme Court released a TV ad that makes clear Tim is the only candidate in the race who will stand up to Governor Walker’s extreme agenda. The ad will play initially on broadcast in the Madison and Milwaukee markets, and articulates Tim’s vision for a Wisconsin Supreme Court that looks out for everyone regardless of race or income level. We can no longer afford to have a Wisconsin Supreme Court that simply looks out for the wealthy and the well-connected.

The spring primary is February 20th, and will narrow the current field to two candidates.

Tim Burns is a partner at a law firm in Madison. Burns is running for the seat now held by Justice Michael Gableman, who has announced his retirement from the court. The primary will be held on February 20th, 2018 and will narrow the field to 2 candidates who will advance to the April 3rd general election.

Rebecca Dallet Launches Untruthful Hit Piece on Tim Burns PDF Print E-mail

tim-burnsAd mischaracterizes Tim Burn’s experience as a public servant, also features a quote from Law 360, discussing Tim’s capital murder trial from almost 20 years ago, when he says “I had very little experience with the criminal justice system at the time.”

MADISON, WI - This morning, Dallet for Justice released a digital ad that intentionally or recklessly mischaracterizes Tim Burn’s experience as a public servant. The spot, which the Dallet campaign said would reach a targeted statewide audience. In the ad Judge David Swanson says Tim Burns has never served as a public servant. This statement is untrue. Tim Burns spent a year serving as a clerk on the United States 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Tim is the only candidate in this race with experience working on an appellate court. This information is not secret, and is easily available on the Perkins Coie website.

But the untruthful hit job doesn’t stop there. The ad also features a quote from Law 360, discussing Tim’s capital murder trial from almost 20 years ago, when he says “I had very little experience with the criminal justice system at the time.”

Judge Dallet knows or should have known these statements are untrue, and featuring these statements in a public ad by her campaign is a clear violation of the code of judicial conduct. See SCR 60.06 section C. As such it is Judge Dallet’s responsibility to pull the ad immediately.

Below is a quote from Amanda Brink, campaign manager for Burns:

“This tactic is ripped straight from the Scott Walker playbook, and unfortunately this is just business as usual for Judge Dallet’s campaign, a desperate candidate who will say anything to get elected.

But this campaign isn’t about who can sling the most mud. It is about which candidate will be a Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice who will look out for all Wisconsinites, regardless of race or income level. That candidate is Tim Burns. ”

SCR 60.06 A judge or judicial candidate shall refrain from inappropriate political activity. (c) Misrepresentations. A candidate for a judicial office shall not knowingly or with reckless disregard for the statement's truth or falsity misrepresent the identity, qualifications, present position, or other fact concerning the candidate or an opponent. A candidate for judicial office should not knowingly make representations that, although true, are misleading, or knowingly make statements that are likely to confuse the public with respect to the proper role of judges and lawyers in the American adversary system.

leah-vukmirRepublican Leah Vukmir Commits to No New Taxes as a U.S. Senator.

BROOKFIELD, WI - U.S. Senate candidate and state Sen. Leah Vukmir announced Tuesday that she has signed the Americans for Tax Reform pledge. By signing this pledge, Leah commits to oppose all new taxes and tax increases.

“Signing this pledge was a no-brainer,” Leah said. “Voters can know I will work to cut taxes, not just because I signed this pledge, but because I have a track record they can count on. I’ve worked closely with Gov. Walker and Republicans in Wisconsin to cut taxes by more than $8 billion, and I will take my same determination to let people keep their hard-earned money to Washington.”

leah-vukmir2018 Wisconsin Way tour is part of Senate run.

BROOKFIELD, WI - Nurse and U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir on Wednesday announced that she’s kicked off her 2018 Wisconsin Way tour.

“Nothing is more important to me as I run to take the Wisconsin Way to Washington than to hear from voters about the issues that matter to them,” Leah said. “Since I considered running for the U.S. Senate, I’ve put on more than 44,000 miles on my car driving to meet face to face with Wisconsinites all across our state. The resounding message I hear is that we need a proven conservative to defeat Tammy Baldwin.”

Leah is eager to meet with Wisconsinites in every corner of the Badger State. She intends to visit all 72 counties in Wisconsin within the first few months of 2018.

In the month of January alone, Leah has already visited and talked to voters in 27 counties — Adams, Brown, Buffalo, Calumet, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Douglas, Iowa, Kenosha, Kewaunee, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Monroe, Oconto, Ozaukee, Pepin, Shawano, Sheboygan, St. Croix, Trempealeau, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Waupaca and Winnebago.

In 2017, Leah spent a considerable amount of time traveling across the state to meet with voters, attending events in about two-thirds of Wisconsin counties since she began testing the waters for her U.S. Senate run.
