STEVENS POINT, WI – Today, on the anniversary of the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Democrat Katrina Shankland released her third TV ad in her campaign for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, “Stop Sign.” The ad highlights Shankland’s opposition to a national abortion ban.

On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson, rolling back 49 years of precedent. Women’s reproductive rights form a core plank of Shankland’s campaign to defeat Radical Derrick Van Orden. She has vowed to stop Republicans' national abortion ban and any attempt to ban IVF and birth control. As a state legislator, she has led on legislation requiring insurance companies to cover 12 months of birth control and co-authored a bill to repeal Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion ban.

Meanwhile, Van Orden recently doubled down on his view that life begins at conception. He also voted for a measure in the National Defense Authorization Act restricting reproductive care for women servicemembers.

Last week, Shankland became the first Democratic candidate in the 3rd District to advertise on TV with “Moving” and “Middle Ground.” Click here to view “Stop Sign.”

The script of the ad reads as follows:

I know how to get things moving in the State Capitol. But in Congress, I’ll also have the experience to stop bad ideas like the national abortion ban and stop attacks on our democracy. I’m Katrina Shankland, and I approve this message because our freedoms are on the line.

In her campaign for Congress, Shankland has earned endorsements from Congressman Mark Pocan, former Congressman Dave Obey, the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, 15 labor unions, more than 40 state and local elected officials, and three national groups. Head-to-head polling shows Shankland is the only Democratic candidate who beats Van Orden in the general election this November, 48-46%.

Katrina Shankland is a state representative in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In the Legislature, Katrina has passed 225 bipartisan laws, including increased access to affordable rural healthcare, help for farmers, expanded protections for first responders, and stronger clean water laws. Katrina is running for Congress to bring some common sense to the Capitol, fight against extremism, and deliver results for the hard-working people of Wisconsin.
