MADISON - Monday, Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement regarding UW-Madison’s addition of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE nurses) at campus health clinic’s starting this fall:
“SANE nurses offer a different level of care for survivors and provide emotional support after a traumatic experience. The work they do is so vital both at the time of administering care, but also for helping survivors through the process after an assault. Their specialized training helps them to provide compassionate medical care to those who need it most. This level of care can impact if a survivor chooses to report or not. The work that SANE nurses do is nothing short of extraordinary and I am thankful that UW-Madison students will be able to seek care from them. “It is time we start taking the issue of sexual assault on seriously at every level - I am grateful to see UW-Madison take this step and look forward to seeing what else they do to support survivors in the future.” |
