MADISON - Gov. Tony Evers today announced his appointment of James Rennicke to serve as Burnett County District Attorney.
Rennicke is assistant district attorney for Polk County and currently serves as special prosecutor in Burnett County, handling the entire criminal caseload for the county. He has more than three decades of experience practicing criminal law in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, including as district attorney in Rusk County, assistant district attorney in Douglas and Polk Counties, and as criminal defense counsel.
“Mr. Rennicke has committed his life work to fair and thoughtful justice. He is a dedicated public servant who goes above and beyond for the good of his community,” Gov. Evers said. “Mr. Rennicke is exactly the kind of stabilizing force that Burnett County deserves.”
Gov. Evers’ appointment of Rennicke fills a vacancy created by the resignation of former district attorney Joseph Schieffer. Rennicke will fill the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2021. |

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Democrats on Monday released the first transcripts from their closed-door hearings.
The transcripts are the first full public accounting of testimony from former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and former top aide to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Michael McKinley. They largely focused on the sequence of events that led to the recalling of Yovanovitch back to the United States.
The U.S. ambassador was seen as insufficiently loyal to Trump, and was the subject of a campaign by the White House and its allies to undermine her.

Firefighter Brian Serdynski passed away on Sat., Nov. 2, 2019, as the result of a heart attack he had suffered a few weeks earlier while on an emergency call.
MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Union Grove-Yorkville firefighter Brian Serdynski. Serdynski passed away on Sat., Nov. 2, 2019, as the result of a heart attack he had suffered a few weeks earlier while on an emergency call.
“Brian was a loving father, loyal friend, and a pillar of his community, and put his life on the line to protect and serve others,” said Gov. Evers. “I join Wisconsinites in mourning his death and remembering his legacy of selfless service. My deepest condolences are with Brian's family, including his wife Rachael and three kids, and his Union Grove-Yorkville Fire Department family.”
The order is effective immediately for today, Mon., Nov. 4, 2019, until sunset on Sun., Nov. 10, 2019.
