assembly-wi-robin-vos-pressMADISON – Today, Senate Republicans overrode 9 of Governor Evers’ vetoes. These overrides still must move on to the State Assembly. Senator Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:

“After 13 years of legislative control, Republicans clearly sense that their days of holding a gerrymandered majority are coming to an end. They had 13 years to take action on policies the people of Wisconsin are asking us to pass – policies like paid family leave, cannabis legalization, abortion access, Medicaid expansion, and addressing the child care crisis. Instead, Republicans continue playing politics as new, fair maps are put into place in the upcoming election.

melissa-agard“Senate Republicans believe by overriding these bills today, they will achieve a symbolic victory over Governor Evers. Attacking a twice-elected, highly popular Governor who has a track record of listening to the people of Wisconsin is certainly an interesting strategy by my colleagues across the aisle.

“Today’s floor actions are clearly a last, pathetic grasp at power as they see the people of Wisconsin shifting away from their outdated policies. Senate Democrats are looking forward toward a future in which the elected representatives in the Capitol reflect the will of the people in our state. Today’s overrides are the same, tired politics of the past that must end.”
