iraq-warTV political ads can say anything, but real Iraq War Veteran Jason Moon says "Russ Feingold helped me and other vets".

GREEN BAY - With the November 8th election date finally nearing, we've been flooded with the usual TV political ads from all sides.

russ-feingoldAd writers can say anything, so it is good to actually read a letter to the editor from real veterans who have real life experience with the candidates. One such letter appears in The Cap Times this morning.

The text of the letter is presented below.

Jason Moon: "Russ Feingold helped me and other vets"

Dear Editor: In 2003, I was in Iraq with the Wisconsin Army National Guard. When my contract expired, the military enacted what is now called Stop-Loss to keep me in. No one in my chain of command could explain to me the legality behind involuntarily extending my contract, so I wrote letters. I wrote the president, my senators and representatives and all my state legislators. Only one senator responded to my request.

When I returned home I suffered with PTSD. Unable to keep a job, I filled a Comp & Penn. The DOD denied my claim. They couldn’t find my records. Once again I wrote to my elected officials and once again only one senator responded.

Four days after I sent a letter to Sen. Russ Feingold’s office, every single one of my military records arrived at my doorstep. The DOD dragged its feat on my Comp & Penn claim, and once again Feingold’s office stepped up.

Since then I have helped about a dozen veterans file claims for injuries sustained in the combat zone. Every time we ran into a road block, we wrote to Feingold, and every time his office followed through.

Don’t believe the BS you're hearing in the political ads. Feingold has a proven record of helping veterans. His opponent, soon to be ex-senator Johnson, doesn’t think veterans are worth helping. He was one of only three senators to vote against funding and reform of the VA health system. His reason? It costs too much. A complete list of Johnson’s votes against veterans can be found here.

My brothers and sisters paid with their blood and some with their lives. Feingold is the only candidate in this race who’s consistently voted to care for this nations veterans. Please remember this come Nov. 8.
