MADISON, WI - Mike Gallagher has been running around trying to deflect attention from his ill-received Social Security plan, which would cut benefits for 2/3 of older Wisconsinites down to the poverty level, by lying about Tom Nelson's record of standing up for seniors. However, what Gallagher hasn't said is that the criticism about his plan wrecking Social Security coverage is in anyway wrong.

elderly-crowd "If Mike Gallagher truly believes his Social Security plan wouldn't cut benefits for 2/3 of older Wisconsinites down to the poverty level than why isn't he saying so?" Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Brandon Weathersby said on Wednesday. "Gallagher hasn't refuted the facts that his Social Security plan would be a disaster for older Wisconsinites. He knows just how bad his plan would be for seniors by slashing their benefits to the poverty level."

Seniors are speaking out against Gallagher's plan because they know it would be a disaster. The Alliance for Retired Americans has said as much: "The Gallagher plan would result in drastic Social Security guaranteed benefit cuts for two-thirds of seniors...it is clear that Mike Gallagher can never be trusted to stand up for our seniors."

"Gallagher can try to deflect negative attention by lying about Tom Nelson's record, but at the end of the day Gallagher's silence on his own Social Security plan shows how devastating it would be for older Wisconsinites," Weathersby concluded.
