david-polashekOCONTO FALLS, WI – On Wednesday, former educator Dave Polashek announced he is suspending his candidacy for State Senate District 12. Thomas Tiffany (R - Hazelhurst) currently holds the seat.

Senate District 12 covers a large area of Northeastern Wisconsin, bordered from Wausaw and Suamico on the south, Marinette on the east, and the Nicolet National and Northern Highland State Forests on the north and west.

Polashek spent his career serving students, families and communities as an educator and school administrator. He recently retired as superintendent of schools for Oconto Falls.

While he is suspending his own candidacy, Polashek will continue to work to defeat Tiffany. He supports Bryan Van Stippen for the seat and urges his supporters to do the same.

Dave Polashek made the following statement suspending his campaign for State Senate:

“I am announcing today that I am suspending my race for the State Senate District 12. When I entered the race I said I did so because I was convinced that the Northwoods and the State of Wisconsin cannot withstand four more years of Tom Tiffany. In my six months of talking to residents as I traveled the district, I heard that time and time again. As it is, we may never recover from the damage he and his fellow Republicans have already inflicted on our beloved State: our public schools, environment, municipalities, public servants, and especially Wisconsin’s century-long reputation as a progressive state that values clean and open government.”

“With the recent announcement that Bryan Van Stippen has entered the race, I knew I had a decision to make. I sought the counsel of family, friends and supporters as to how I should proceed. We concluded that the only upside to a Democratic primary would be that there would be two of us on the campaign trail informing voters about Tiffany’s reckless and dangerous record. That positive had to be weighed against the possibility of an expensive primary that would divide our resources and our efforts.”

“There is a saying I think applies here. Knowing when to leave may be the smartest thing anyone can ever learn. And since I have been an educator my whole life, I am taking this advice to heart. I throw my support behind Bryan Van Stippen and I urge my supporters to do the same. We must keep our eye on the goal: to restore our Senate District and our State to its former greatness by leading our citizens out of the economic, political, and environmental chaos Tom Tiffany and Republicans have created in Wisconsin.”
