jon-shelton-uwgbGreen Bay, WI—Today, Professor and Green Bay Equal Rights Commissioner Jon Shelton announced his candidacy for the 4th district of Green Bay’s Common Council.

Shelton, who is professor and Chair of Democracy and Justice Studies at UW-Green Bay, is also the elected president of UWGB-United, the campus’s faculty and staff union, and a current member of Green Bay’s first ever Equal Rights Commission. In his capacity as Vice-Chair of the ERC, Shelton has worked to advance LGBTQ+ equality and equal access to housing for everyone who lives in our city. He is running to extend that work to the council chambers and to elect the kind of city council that truly reflects the values of the residents of Green Bay.

Shelton, who proudly lives in the Astor Park neighborhood where he is raising two school-age kids, said, "The future of our city is diverse, and we should celebrate that.   Most Green Bay residents welcome the growing racial diversity in our city and we are a city that celebrates our LGBTQ+ community. I’m running to fight for those values and for all the city services—like those the ERC outlined in its January 2023 report on housing—the hard working people of Green Bay deserve."

Shelton will hold a campaign kick-off in conjunction with Christina Thor, candidate for Green Bay’s 11th, that is open to the press and the public, at Zambaldi Beer, on Tue, Dec. 12, from 4-6 pm.
