women-health-blackMADISON – Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Licensing, Constitution and Federalism will hear a number of anti-abortion bills. Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:

melissa-agard“Abortion is personal, and no politician or government should decide for an individual when and whether or not they continue a pregnancy.

“One of the GOP bills receiving a public hearing today not only micromanages a trained physician’s practice, but also interferes in the private medical discussions between a patient and their doctor. This is an assault on our medical privacy and further infringes on an individual’s right to free speech. Republicans will not stop until the use of the word ‘abortion’ is punishable by law. Their obsession with controlling women’s bodies and health decisions poses a grave danger to people everywhere.

“While Planned Parenthood has resumed services at two locations in Wisconsin, other health care organizations throughout the state have not. Republican actions today show just how important it is that we continue the uphill battle to restore and defend abortion access.”
