“I cannot stand for unborn babies being killed, and I especially won’t stand for it on the state’s dime,” says U.S. Senate hopeful Leah Vukmir, (R–Brookfield).

MADISON - The Senate Committee on Health and Human Services heard a bill Tuesday to ensure that taxpayer resources are not used to subsidize abortions at Planned Parenthood through services provided by the University of Wisconsin System or the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority.

“It is our moral imperative to ensure hard-working Wisconsinites won’t have their tax dollars mismanaged and exploited for the murder of babies,” said committee chairman Leah Vukmir, R–Brookfield. “I cannot stand for unborn babies being killed, and I especially won’t stand for it on the state’s dime.”

This bill came from the House Select Investigative Panel of the Energy & Commerce Committee report where it was discovered that the UW School of Medicine and Public Health deployed both faculty and residents to work at Planned Parenthood.

This bill, authored by Sen. Chris Kapenga and Rep. André Jacque, prohibits UW System and UW Health employees from helping perform an abortion as part of their employment. It also bans these state employees in their job from aiding or training another person to perform an abortion at another place besides a hospital.

“When Republicans took control of state government in 2011, we defunded Planned Parenthood,” Vukmir said. “This bill continues our efforts to ensure taxpayer dollars are not misused to support the sinister and devastating industry to kill babies at Planned Parenthood.”
