teaching-studentsRHINELANDER, WI – A recent memo from the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau detailed exactly the extent of the cuts that northern public schools have had to endure. The memo showed that 32 of the 38 school districts in Wisconsin’s 12th State Senate District lost more than 10% of their general school aid since 2010.

“These negligent budget cuts have left our hardworking families behind,” said State Senate Candidate Bryan Van Stippen in a statement. “Over the last six years, Madison Republicans have siphoned millions of dollars into unaccountable Milwaukee voucher schools instead of helping our public schools thrive.”

“My opponent, Senator Tom Tiffany, repeatedly voted towards $24 million in cuts for our public schools while favoring tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. These misplaced budget priorities have left our public schools struggling to recruit the teachers needed to provide our children with the well-rounded education they deserve.”

“If elected, I will work to reverse these damaging cuts by restoring state support for our public schools and prioritize the futures of our children over tax breaks for millionaires. Our students, families, and communities deserve better,” Van Stippen concluded.
