WAUPACA, WI – Last week, a memo from the Legislative Fiscal Bureau (LFB) showed that funding for Wisconsin’s public schools have undergone massive cuts of $210 per student since the beginning of the current administration’s tenure. During the same period, Republican lawmakers have increased private voucher schools by $911 per student.

brian-smith“In order to ensure Wisconsin thrives for generations to come, it is incredibly important that we provide a quality education for every child in the state," said Waupaca Mayor and State Senate Candidate Brian Smith in a statement released Wednesday. "Wisconsin families understand that in order for our state to succeed, we need to invest in strong local schools for our children."

Over the last six years, funding has been stripped from our local public schools and sent to private voucher schools in Milwaukee. This new LFB memo confirms that school districts and communities have struggled over the last six years.

“Instead of recognizing the incredible value of Wisconsin’s public education system, Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee have chosen to funnel state resources into private voucher schools," says Smith. "I am running for State Senate to restore Wisconsin’s investment in the future of all of our children, not just the wealthy few.”
