Madison - State Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) is urging people to participate in the upcoming hearing being held by the People’s Maps Commission which is tasked with drawing fair and impartial maps for Wisconsin’s legislative elections.

dave-hansen-gb“As someone who has been at the forefront of ending gerrymandering in our state, I am pleased that Governor Evers created this commission and I urge everyone who wants to see fair maps to take part in the upcoming hearing,” said Hansen who has authored non-partisan redistricting legislation since 2013.

The hearing will be held online from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020.

Anyone wishing to testify at the hearing must register in advance by visiting the People’s Maps Commission website HERE. The deadline for remote public appearance requests for the October hearing is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020.

“The Republicans in the Legislature refused to give this issue a public hearing despite the fact that a large majority of Wisconsinites support fair and competitive elections.  Finally, people will have the chance to make their voices heard and have a part in drawing fair maps.”

If you are unable to attend the hearing you can still make sure your voice is heard by providing written testimony. Written comments can be submitted  at any time using the feedback form available on the People’s Maps Commission website HERE. All written comments will be reviewed by the commissioners and are part of the public record.

“Thanks to Governor Evers and the People’s Commission everyone who cares about ending gerrymandering and creating fair and competitive elections can now have their voice heard on October 1st.  I encourage everyone who is concerned about this issue to take part.
