GREEN BAY, WI - The City of Green Bay has been working diligently to ensure that all votes will be counted, and all new registrants can register.  The City is encountering obstacles, and has instituted additional measures to conduct a full and fair election for Green Bay.

Voters have positively responded to Governor Evers’ recommendation to complete an absentee ballot, and the clerk’s office has received thousands of absentee ballot requests.  The City of Green Bay is working tirelessly, and has processed almost 17,000 requests, mailed out over 10,300 ballots to voters, and have approximately 7000 requests in the queue. By way of comparison, the presidential preference primary in April 2016 had over 2700 absentee ballots cast.

Due to concerns over COVID-19, the city has created two Election Day emergency polling locations at West High School’s gymnasium (966 Shawano Avenue) and East High School’s gymnasium (1415 East Walnut). These locations will implement protective measures for both voters and poll workers.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VOTERS ON ELECTION DAY, APRIL 7, 2020

Parking at East High School (1415 East Walnut)

Please use the parking lot adjacent to the high school.  Do not park on Baird or block residents’ driveways.  Do not park in “no parking” zones.

Parking at West High School (966 Shawano Avenue)

Please use the parking lot adjacent to the high school.  There’s a lot on the east side of the school closest to the gym, and on the west side of the high school, furthest from the gym.  Do not park on Shawano or block residents’ driveways.  Do not park in “no parking” zones.

Voting at West High School Gymnasium (966 Shawano Avenue)

Wards 25, 28-47 may vote at West High School.

This school location is compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.

This location will mandate protective practices, and will retain police department personnel to ensure that everyone remains safe.

Protective practices are:  maintaining a 6-foot physical separation from others (“social-distancing”); staying at home if you feel sick; washing your hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer; and coughing into your sleeve.

We strongly urge voters to refrain from bringing children.

We will have freshly sanitized pens, but encourage voters to bring their own black ball-point pens (gel or felt-tip pens are not acceptable, nor are pens of different colors).

Please have your photo identification ready for inspection by poll workers.  Go to myvote.wi.gov for acceptable forms of photo identification.

Because of protective practices, it will take more time for voters to cast their ballots.

Registering and Voting and East and West High Schools

Voters, who have just turned 18 or who have moved, may register and vote the same day.

First, find out which polling location, East or West High School, contains your voting ward.  Ward information can be found at myvote.wi.gov.

Learn which documents you may present to register.  You must have a valid photo identification to vote, also on myvote.wi.gov.

Registering to vote will take longer than usual.
