menstural equality posterMADISON- Today, Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison), global leader and Binti founder and CEO Manjit K. Gill, and other local advocates gathered to discuss their work to make menstrual products more accessible in their communities and globally. Senator Melissa Agard released the following statement:

melissa-agard“For far too long, menstruation has been stigmatized, hidden, and treated with shame and derision. Menstrual products are necessities, not luxuries. Without these essential products, some women are missing work and school, risking their health, or compromising their dignity simply because the products they need to care for their health are inaccessible.

“Furthermore, nationwide studies show that the cost of providing these menstrual products is significantly less than the cost of soap, toilet paper, paper towel, and other bathroom supplies currently being provided in school bathrooms everywhere. We can and must do more to ensure that menstrual products are as accessible as toilet paper, specifically in public spaces.

“It was an honor to have Binti founder and CEO Manjit K. Gill with us today. She is a global leader on this issue, with a Binti presence in the UK, India, Kenya, the Gambia and the U.S. and a true champion of ensuring menstrual dignity worldwide.”
