MADISON – On Thursday, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) give final authorization for the Cardinal-Hickory Creek Transmission Line. The project gained preliminary approval on August 20, 2019. The regulators voted unanimously on both occasions to approve the construction of the controversial project. Local legislators, Senator Jon Erpenbach, Representative Dave Considine, Representative Dianne Hesselbein, and Representative Sondy Pope released the following statement:

“The transmission line received opposition from local units of government, concerned constituents, and advocacy groups, and will continue to receive backlash over the substantial impacts that the line may have.

“Those that opposed the transmission line were well-organized and extremely knowledgeable. We were impressed by how involved and effective our constituents were during this process. While we are all surprised by these results, we are thankful for all of the effort and adamant opposition.

“We are disappointed, but we will continue to work towards protecting consumers, farmland, properties and habitats as the transmission line is built.”

The project will now move forward with the approval process in the state of Iowa.
