Lawmakers need to address the funding crisis for our crumbling infrastructure.

MADISON – Assembly Democratic Leader Peter Barca (D-Kenosha) joined with Senate Democratic Leader Jen Shilling on Wednesday to propose a joint bipartisan transportation committee consisting of four Republican and four Democratic lawmakers to address the funding crisis for our crumbling infrastructure. After six years of total Republican control and no long-term solutions to sustainably fund our roads and bridges, Democratic leaders hope that Republicans will be willing to work together for the benefit of all Wisconsin residents.

“With transportation, we need to look at the whole picture in an open and transparent way,” said Rep. Barca. “That has to include the men and women who roll up their sleeves every day to complete projects on time, with quality workmanship at a fair wage. We need to hear from Wisconsinites who drive our roads every day. We want input from the business community that depends on reliable roads and bridges. Democrats want a deal that includes meaningful infrastructure reform, invests in our communities and expands economic opportunities. It’s time for Republicans to come to the table and develop a sustainable transportation plan.”
