jon-erpenbach-radioMADISON – Senator Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) offered the Democratic Weekly Radio address today reflecting on the importance of Workers' Memorial Day.

"Safety protections, whistle blower laws, overtime pay, child labor laws and even the 40 hour work week ensure the safety and security of the American dream for all. On April 28th this year, we remember the value of strong employee protections laws with Workers Memorial Day." - Sen. Jon Erpenbach

A written transcript of the address is below:

"Hi, this is State Senator Jon Erpenbach. Mourn the dead. Fight for the living. This phrase is the centerpiece of Workers Memorial Day where hard working families and their unions honor those who work in our community.

"All of us benefit from workplace protections and employee rights because of labor laws in the United States and here in Wisconsin. Our laws are designed to protect employees from hazards on the job like exposure to harmful materials, unsafe conditions, safety equipment that is not maintained and situations like double shifts, exhaustion on the job, and lack of on the job personal protection.

"But our work isn’t done. There is a concerted effort in this state and in this country to take away workplace safety and bargaining laws. Working to displace unions and representation on the job means that the collective voice of employees is weakened.

"Safety protections, whistle blower laws, overtime pay, child labor laws and even the 40 hour work week ensure the safety and security of the American dream for all of us. On April 28th this year, we remember the value of strong employee protections laws with Workers Memorial Day."
