STEVENS POINT, WI – Today, Senator Julie Lassa (D–Stevens Point) offered the following Democratic Weekly Radio Address on Wisconsin’s first Legislative Children’s Caucus. “Children are our most precious resource, and their well-being has a tremendous impact on the health of our entire society. That’s why I’m pleased that the Children’s Caucus will bring legislators together to meet with well-respected researchers and economists, and explore how to translate their latest findings into model public policy."- Sen. Julie Lassa The audio file of this week’s address can be found here: A written transcript of the address is below: “This is State Senator Julie Lassa. Next week, I will join a bipartisan group of legislators to announce the organization of Wisconsin’s first Legislative Children’s Caucus. The goal of the caucus will be to research and advocate for promising, evidence-based public policy that will improve the quality of life for all Wisconsin's children. “Children are our most precious resource, and their well-being has a tremendous impact on the health of our entire society. That’s why I’m pleased that the Children’s Caucus will bring legislators together to meet with well-respected researchers and economists, and explore how to translate their latest findings into model public policy. “A recent University of Wisconsin analysis showed that more than a quarter of a million Wisconsin children live in poverty, and the state’s increase in childhood poverty is one of the fastest growing in the nation. This will not only lead to long-term health and economic problems for them; it will also contribute to a host of social problems and increased costs for all of us. I hope the work of the Children’s Caucus will help legislators better understand these challenges and find effective solutions to improve the lives of all children and build a better future for us all.” |
