GREENFIELD, WI - The president of Wisconsin’s largest union of educators questioned the motives on Monday of an attempt to push a committed and qualified Greenfield teacher out of her position. Betsy Kippers, president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council, made the comments prior to a Greenfield school board meeting in this affluent Milwaukee County suburb.

The 30-year teacher – with a perfect record – was told her position in the school library was eliminated and then forced to reapply for a new position with similar responsibilities. After re-applying and expressing her willingness to learn any new duties, the teacher was told the Greenfield School District’s direction “is not entirely aligned” to the teacher’s “attributes” and that she would not be considered.

WEAC President Betsy Kippers made the following statement on the action by Greenfield:

“Greenfield should respect the role of caring and committed teachers for every student and reverse this decision. This is the kind of absurdity that drives qualified educators away from the profession.”
