MADISON - Here are two important bills that I hope you’ll contact your legislators on. The first is Senate Bill 58, a bipartisan proposal that calls for an independent redistricting process, overseen by an nonpartisan state agency. It is modeled after Iowa's successful redistricting process. Voters in Wisconsin should choose their representatives, not the other way around! So please tell your state Senate and Assembly representatives to support Senate Bill 58. The second is Assembly Bill 176, a horrible piece of legislation that would decrease disclosure of money in Wisconsin politics. The bill in part removes the requirement to disclose donors’ principal place of employment. It is backed, not surprisingly, by Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. If passed, it would obscure the special interests that are getting sweetheart deals from the very officeholders they are funding. So please tell your Assembly representative to oppose Assembly Bill 176. You can read more on the Democracy Campaign’s position here. Contacting your legislator is easy, as I explain below. You and I still have a voice, and legislators still can be influenced if enough regular citizens give them an earful. Let them hear you, loud and clear! *** Matt Rothschild is the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Here’s How to Contact Your Legislator:
