womenMADISON - Legislation is being proposed by Republican lawmakers that would further limit access to health care for Wisconsin women and families. The bill would ban abortions at 20 weeks into a pregnancy, a measure that Gov. Scott Walker has said he supports.

We need to protect a woman’s freedom to make decisions about her health care and prevent further political intrusion into personal decisions that are best left to a woman, her doctor, her family and her faith. Once again, Republicans are failing to address the important economic and financial challenges facing our state and are instead forcing their political ideology on women across Wisconsin.

For victims of rape and incest and women with rare and unexpected medical complications, this bill will limit their freedom to choose and prevent health professionals from delivering the highest standard of medical care. Abortions after 20 weeks are extremely rare and often result from extraordinary health complications that require doctors to consider every medical option available. This bill will jeopardize women’s safety and prevent health professionals from making life-saving medical decisions.
