MILWAUKEE – A new Marquette Law School Poll finds Gov. Scott Walker’s job approval rating has fallen to 41 percent, with 56 percent of registered voters in Wisconsin saying they disapprove of how he is handling his job as governor. In the previous poll, in October 2014, Walker’s approval among registered voters was 49 percent, with 47 percent disapproving.

The poll interviewed 803 registered voters by landline and cell phone April 7-10. For the full sample, the margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points. For Republicans and independents who lean toward the Republican Party, the sample size is 319, with a margin of error of +/-5.6 percentage points. For Democrats and independents who lean toward the Democratic Party, the sample size is 391, with a margin of error of +/-5.1 percentage points.

dave-hansenIn a statement released Thursday, Sen. Dave Hansen (D - Green Bay) said of Walker's falling support among Wisconsinites:

“While polls are snapshots in time, at this time it is clear that not only is Governor Walker failing Wisconsin but the majority of people here know it.

"Nearly every major initiative in his budget is opposed by a majority of Wisconsin residents. Whether it is his continued cuts to public schools, his continued assault on our UW campuses, his plan to lift the caps on voucher schools or his attack on our long held tradition of environmental stewardship the people see his budget for what it is: a blueprint for his presidential run at the expense of average people.

"Wisconsinites are seeing through his strategy to divide and conquer. A majority oppose his efforts to eviscerate private sector unions, to pit public schools against private schools and to pit property tax payers against our children’s education.

"As Democrats have said time and time again his plan to give more and more of our tax dollars to the wealthiest among us has failed to create the jobs he promised, to lift wages or fix his $2.2 billion budget crisis.

"While Governor Walker’s campaign for President may be succeeding in other states he and his policies are failing us here at home.”
