GREEN BAY – Organizers for the Brown County Recall effort have told the Progressive that they have gathered enough signatures to surpass their goal of 33,000 in the Brown County area to recall Gov. Scott Walker. Tomorrow, Friday, January 13 is the final day to sign and deliver recall petitions to any of the more than 42 field offices across Wisconsin.

According to our source at the Green Bay Recall office, located at 1061 W. Mason Street, that office now expects over 35,200 signatures to be collected there by the Friday deadline. More signed petitions are pouring in daily.

Signatures to recall Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch have been trailing the number to recall Walker by about 12%, but the office still expects to meet its goal in this recall as well. A separate petition is needed for the Kleefisch recall, even though Walker and Kleefisch were elected as one ticket on the November 2010 ballot.

The petitions from the Green Bay office will be combined with those from around the state and turned in to the Government Accountability Board in Madison on Tuesday. The GAB will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the signatures on the lists.

Democrats statewide are also confident they will surpass their goal and force a recall election on Walker. According to Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Graeme Zielinski, "We're going to have turn in next Tuesday at 3 p.m. it looks like, at the Government Accountability Board in Madison, followed by a party at Monona Terrace at 5 p.m.".

"We're confident that we will get 720,000 signatures, which is a number beyond any challenge," Zielinski said. A little over 540,000 signatures are needed for recall.

Brown County Democrats and local RECALL organizers who can’t make the BIG party in Madison are planning the get together Tuesday, January 17, 6pm – 8pm, at IQ's Food, Music, and Art, 2105 Univeristy Ave., Green Bay, WI to celebrate their successful effort  (map). Supporters are invited to come in and join the celebration of surpassing the signature goal in the Greater Green Bay area.
