teacher_teachingMILWAUKEE - Milwaukee teachers, educational assistants, bookkeepers and substitute teachers voted overwhelmingly to recertify the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association and continue collective bargaining with MPS for wages as allowed under Act 10.

“This vote shows how strongly Milwaukee educators feel about union power and collective bargaining,” said MTEA President Bob Peterson. “Of the employees who voted, 99% voted yes.

“Walker and state legislators need to know that our union is as strong as ever. With or without a recertification vote, we represent Milwaukee educators who are fighting not only for better pay but also for better teaching and learning conditions, and for the right of every child in our city to attend a quality public school.”

The Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association represents thousands of educators in the Milwaukee Public Schools, and advocates for high quality public education for all children.
