GREEN BAY - All through the summer and fall, electioneering Governor Scott Walker tried to talk his way around it. His campaign even tried to tell us there was a $500 million budget surplus. But the nearly $1.8 billion deficit the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau reported on September 8, 2014 has not gone away. It has grown.

Earlier today, the Department of Administration reported that the state is facing a staggering $2.2 billion deficit. The new budget numbers prove again that Gov. Walker has not been honest with us.

dave-hansenAccording to State Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay):

“News today from the Department of Administration that the state is facing a staggering $2.2 billion deficit should come as no surprise to anyone who was following the numbers and analysis provided by the non-partisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau over the past several months.

"Despite the efforts by the Governor and Republican leaders to claim otherwise, the numbers don’t lie: Their policy of giving huge tax breaks to the rich and corporations and paying for them by slashing funding for education, job training and the services that support a strong middle class has not only made Wisconsin less attractive for new businesses but it has left us with a $2.2 billion budget deficit.

"Now that the elections are over it appears the Governor and Republican leaders feel they can finally come clean and admit what most of us have known all along—the state has a budget crisis and they are the cause of it.”
