DE PERE, WI - Dean DeBroux, candidate for State Senator of the 1st District announced today bi-partisan endorsements of a number local officials who said the area needs a State Senator who lives in the district fulltime to understand and address the unique challenges facing local communities.

“The worst-kept secret in the 1st District is that Frank Lasee makes his home in Racine and rarely visits or takes an interest in our communities or problems,” said DeBroux.  “Saying he is a part-time senator for our area would be giving him too much credit.”

The result, said DeBroux, is a state senator in “name-only” who is more concerned with advancing his personal agenda than solving local problems.

Lee Luft, Kewaunee County Board Supervisor, a Republican, endorsed DeBroux after becoming frustrated by Frank Lasee’s lack of concern for increasing groundwater pollution that recently led to a request for an EPA investigation into the role factory farms play in polluting local wells.

Said Luft:  “Dean’s understanding of the issues and support for our efforts to protect our drinking water is a very refreshing and much needed change from the attitude of our incumbent state senator. Dean’s willingness to step up and be counted upon to support the efforts of our County Board, our private citizens, and environmental groups working to slow and then reverse the sources of our water contamination have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.”

David Hardtke, Carlton Town Chair, an Independent, said he’s supporting Dean DeBroux because he believes a change is needed in order to increase worker training and to create the types of jobs many in the area need to support their families.

“When 600 workers were losing their jobs due to the needless shut down of the Kewaunee Power Station, Frank Lasee couldn’t be found other than to tell the workers they should look elsewhere for work,” said Hardtke.  “Maybe if Frank Lasee lived here, and had to face folks on a daily basis, he would show greater concern for the hit our economy is taking and the fact so many of us lost good paying, family supporting jobs.”

Dr. Montgomery Elmer, Kimberly School Board President, a Democrat, said in support, “Dean DeBroux understands that public funds should be spent on public education, not diverted to private schools.  He understands that everyone should have healthcare and that the State of Wisconsin should accept Federal Medicaid dollars to make this happen. He understands that local control is important and needs to be supported at the state level.”

He continued, “His opponent, Frank Lasee doesn’t understand, nor does he listen. The policies and programs Frank supports have put public education spending back to 2008 levels. He has repeatedly voted to take away local control of vital spending and infrastructure issues. He doesn't support providing Medicaid expansion. We need someone who will work for all of us, not just the privileged few. We need Dean DeBroux in the State Senate.”

Regarding the comments above, DeBroux stated that, “We need a Senator who lives here full time and understands the challenges our communities face. The people of Senate District 1 really get this.”

Some of the local elected officials endorsing Dean DeBroux for State Senate include:

  • Lee Luft, Kewaunee County Board Supervisor
  • Charles Wagner – Kewaunee County Board Supervisor
  • Robert Garfinkel – Kewaunee County Board Supervisor
  • Tom Sieber - Brown County Board Supervisor
